Are you ready for a new life? I know I was…
I am going to totally open and honest with you I didn’t always make healthy decisions when it came to foods and lifestyle choices. Most of my adult life I struggled to find and maintain a healthy weight range and a balanced nutritional way to eat.
I was constantly running on adrenalin at a million miles, working way too much, burning myself out and living in a constant state of stress.
By the time I hit my forties, I was struggling to maintain a healthy weight range and find a nutritionally balanced way to eat.
In 1998 I lost my husband who was only 40 to an embolism, heart attack. Soon after this, I began to suffer from chronic allergies, Autoimmune Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria, ‘hives’, and Angioedema this is a condition characterized by swelling beneath the skin. My body was in overdrive with histamines, I had allergic reactions to just about everything I ate, smelt, even if I bumped myself or my pants were too tight, it was unbearable at times. They only relief was to take antihistamines and prednisone.
As a result of constantly taking these drugs, I suffered from depression and anxiety, serious food cravings, nasty mood swings my hormones were all over the place. I literally thought I as having early menopause, no libido. I was so depressed and unmotivated to do anything that I simply continued to get fatter, sicker and frustrated, constantly cranky and tired. I had developed Diabesity (insulin resistance/weight related diabetes). I had lost direction in my life. To be honest, I was having a big ol’ pity party. .
I knew that I needed to find another way.
Finding no relief in the hands of “modern medicine”, I turned to my own passion for research and finally learned that my symptoms were related to stress, environmentally, emotionally, physically and nutritionally – particularly, the sugar, yeast and chemical preservatives in my diet, In addition to these stresses on our bodies, most of the personal care products, cosmetics, I was overload with toxins
I decided that enough was enough. I had one of those aha moment where I saw that I was unconscious and disconnect from my self.
I soon realized that if things were going to truly change for me, I would need to reshape every area of my life. I made a decision to stop looking outside of myself for happiness and well-being and start creating it from within.
I needed to not only eat well, but to live well.
As I did the work to change my mindset and believes around nourishing myself, I also transformed my attitude towards my life. It became obvious to me just how important the right mindset and beliefs are in achieving weight loss, health goals – and really, anything else I wanted to achieve in my life.
I also learned the power of self-forgiveness and acceptance, something I didn’t think was important or that I deserved.
Experiencing the power of my new beliefs felt as if I had found the missing link, Adding in the right mindset changing my believes was the ‘magic bullet’ that enabled me to consistently put what I knew into practice.
Our beliefs shape our everyday feelings and behaviours.
I believe that food should give us pleasure, nourishment and be easy to prepare.
How mind-body beliefs shape your choices and influence your health. Regardless of what you believe, you will find a way to create consistency between your life and your beliefs. Therefore, beliefs, for the believer, are always true.
Beliefs and recurring thinking patterns are like self-fulfilling prophecies.
These were a few of mine.
- I don’t deserve to be loved
- It’s just too hard to lose weight; it takes too much
- I can’t live without sugar.
- Healthy food cost too much.
- It’s painful to lose weight; I’ll be hungry and feel deprived all the time.
- I don’t deserve to be nourished.
Once I realized I was living by this limiting belief, I re-wrote my beliefs;
What are your limiting personal beliefs around food and weight loss?
What are your beliefs about why you eat what you eat?
What about the quality of the water you drink and the products you use?
What are you beliefs around exercising and pleasure?
The great thing about our belief system is that we can change it.
To replace your old believes with an empowering one.
You can start by writing down what you would like to believe instead.
Do you have Healthy Body image?
A person with a healthy mindset, believes around food, recognizes that while eating can and should be a pleasurable experience, the number one reason for eating is to provide nourishment to the body, we all sometimes use food as an emotional “healer”, rather than what it was designed for…nourishment to our physical bodies.
To have this kind of a mindset, you also must have a healthy body image. That way we imagine our body helps to determine our relations to eating the food we reach for and the body we create. The emotional eater doesn’t like their body, so often they don’t have a strong desire to nourish their body. It becomes a vicious cycle. A person who is has a healthy body image is going to use food as nourishment, and anything else that nourishes her soul.
